|

Hi,
I sold my pilot about a year ago, but would like to get another van. What made me sell was the clutch fault with the Pilot, the release mechanism was made from plastic which kept breaking.
Has anyone else found this problem and is there a mod. after a certain age of van. Any info would be great.
cheers

I think you can get a modified arm as a replacement, I've seen it mentioned on the forum anyway!
Good luck in your search... |

Hi,
The plastic part was what the release bearing sat in and as I remember it had two plastic lugs on a plastic tube that the clutch fork worked on.
We had two clutches and both had this plastic part so we phoned some clutch suppliers and they all said at the time that this was standard.
If the post office still use pilots they must be going through clutches all the time so I would think there is a better part out there.
We had no other real probs with the van other than the propshaft bearing and found it easy to work on with no complicated computer bits and bobs.
Thanks for your help |

Mine has had 3 clutch forks, two clutches, and new master and slave cylinders, but that bearing carrier has never caused an issue with mine in 150k miles
I can't say that I remember it being plastic though _________________

thanks for that.
I remember the mechanic showing me the part and sending for a better make of clutch which also had a plastic bearing carrier.
It sounds like I was unlucky and got a bad one.
Thanks

One of the clutches was a Valeo, the other was an original LDV, neither was faulty or worn out, but were changed because the box was out to change broken clutch forks on both occasions.
Master and slave cylinders were only changed because I misdiagnosed the broken clutch fork in the first place, (the fluid had all gone!) _________________
